In 1880 David is found single, working as a laborer, living as a boarder in Louisa, Kentucky4.

On June 18, 1900 David married Clara Diamond in Lawrence County, Kentucky13. Clara was born May 9, 1876 to Sarah Wellman and Josuah Diamond in Wayne County, West Virginia14.
David purchased the Arlington Hotel in July 190715, but after his health began to deteriorate due to diabetes16 in late 190817, he sold the hotel for $2,40018. David passed away on November 14, 1909 at home in Louisa, Kentucky and is buried at Pine Hill Cemetery19.
November 26, 1909 it is reported that Clara Ward had prepared to continue the Ward restaurant20. On December 25th of that same year, Clara married Robert (Wayne Ferguson) McCoy21. Clara Ward McCoy is listed as the wife of Wayne Ferguson McCoy on his death certificate22.
The 1940 census shows Clara still living in Louisa, Kentucky, now with her third husband, James Thomas Akers23. Clara died in Louisa, Kentucky September 27, 1944 and was buried two days later in Pine Hill Cemetery24.
