Martha Jane McGlothlin

Martha Jane McGlothlin is the third child of Jemima Corel and David McGlothlin.  She was born about 1841 in Tazewell County, Virginia.  Martha Jane traveled with her parents and extended family to Jackson County, Missouri.  After her mother died, Martha Jane moved back to Johnson County, Kentucky with her father and siblings.

Martha Jane married John Spence on September 1, 1855 in Johnson County, Kentucky.  On the marriage records, Martha said she was 16, while John is listed as 24 years1.

  1. Henry Jefferson Spence was born September 14, 1856 in Lawrence County, Kentucky2.
  2. Charles Johnson Spence was born August 15, 1857 in Rockcastle, Lawrence County, Kentucky3.
  3. Aaron Spence was born about 1860 most likely in Lawrence County, Kentucky.
  4. Jemima Spence was born about 1863 most likely in Lawrence County, Kentucky.
  5. David Spence was born about 1868 most likely in Lawrence County, Kentucky.

About 1869 Martha Jane is married to Alvin Pack.  No death records, nor any divorce records have been located for John Spence, at this time it is uncertain what ended their marriage.  On the 1870 census, Martha Jane cannot be found, but her five children are living with her husband, Alvin Pack, and are all listed with the Pack surname4.

  1. Minna Pack was born about 1874 in Kentucky.
  2. Tishia Pack was born about 1876 in Kentucky
  3. Charles “Charlie” Pack was born August 1879 in Kentucky.

Martha Jane McGlothlin and her husband Alvin Pack are living in Martin County, Kentucky in 1880 with all eight children.  On the 1880 census, Martha Jane is listed as Mary5.

After the 1880 census, I have not been able to locate anything further on Martha Jane McGlothlin, Alvin Pack, Aaron Spence, Jemima Spence, Minna Pack, or Tishia Pack.
