Children of Henry Jefferson Spence, Part 1

So I’ve only gotten partially through my latest goal of getting through Jemima‘s descendants. In fact, I’ve only gotten halfway through the children of Henry Jefferson Spence before getting stuck on child number 6, Millard Melvin Spence and descendants for the last week.  I tend to get stuck like this when there is just enough information to keep me digging trying to figure out just what happened to a family.  I think I am about ready to accept what I have and finish this family’s section, but knowing that there are 4 more children for Henry Jefferson Spence, I also wanted to at least post that I am still here and still working to get all of Jemima‘s descendants documented!

Website Update – Jemima Corel McGlothlin

This is so exciting to have found so many descendants of Jemima. When I first started this venture in 2007, there was so very little that I knew about Jemima’s children.  Most of the research on Henry H., William, and Shadrack has been done by Bobby Dobbins Title (descendant of Nancy Maryland Corel) and shared on her blog, Immortal Nobodies.

Charles Pack

Charles “Charlie” Pack was the youngest child of Martha Jane McGlothlin and her second husband, Alvin Pack.  Charles was born in August 1879 in Kentucky.  About 1896 he married Laura Fannon.  On the 1900 census, while living in Pear Orchard, Lawrence County, Kentucky, Charlie listed his occupation as a coal miner1.  The 1940 census shows Charlie, age 65, is the head of the household including his wife, daughter and her husband, two grandsons, a wife of one grandson, and his great-grandson.  Charlie is now working as a laborer on a road construction crew in Himlerville, Martin County, Kentucky2.

David Spence

David Spence was the youngest child of John Spence and Martha Jane McGlothlin, born June 4, 1867 in Lawrence County, Kentucky1. Charles Johnson Spence was the second child of Martha Jane McGlothlin and John Spence, born August 15, 1857 in Rockcastle, Lawrence County, Kentucky1.  He married Viola Hinkle on August 15, 18852.  Johnson died August 9, 1907, in Henderson, Kentucky3.

Martha Jane McGlothlin

Martha Jane McGlothlin is the third child of Jemima Corel and David McGlothlin.  She was born about 1841 in Tazewell County, Virginia.  Martha Jane travelled with her parents and extended family to Jackson County, Missouri.  After her mother died, Martha Jane moved back to Johnson County, Kentucky with her father and siblings.

Henry H McGlothlin

Henry H. McGlothlin is the second child of Jemima Corel and David McGlothlin.  Henry H. was born on March 12, 1840 in Tazewell County, Virginia and traveled with his family to Jackson County, Missouri in the late 1840s.  He returned to Kentucky with his father and siblings after the death of his mother.  About 1856 Henry H. decided to return to his extended family who were now living in Kansas.

Mary McGlothlin

Mary McGlothlin is the first child of Jemima and David McGlothlin, and the first grandchild of William and Rebecca.  She was born about 1838 in Tazewell County, Virginia.  Mary travelled with her parents and extended family to Jackson County, Missouri.  After her mother died, Mary moved back to Johnson County, Kentucky with her father and siblings.
