Happy weekend everyone!

With a HUGE amount of help from Teresa this week, I have finished Rebecca’s page and have her uploaded. I am very thankful to Teresa for all of her help and guidance this past week! I have added some additional links in my writing on Rebecca. Most will go to pictures of items that I haven’t quite found a home for yet, but wanted to share. Especially Rebecca’s death certificate!

Rebecca lived through a very difficult time, as did all of the Corel Children. Yet she did endure and left a wonderful legacy of strength. Being the only child of William Corel and Rebecca Oney to not migrate to the Missouri-Kansas area, she was left being a young mother without the support of her parents and siblings. Recall that Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone until 1876, so it was not as it is today, with family only a phone call away.

One thing that fascinated me the most while preparing this page was to learn that two of Rebecca’s sons served with the South in the Civil War. Seeing that our family had men fighting on both sides has reaffirmed that the war did place brother against brother, and in our case, cousin against cousin. I have not allowed myself to delve too far into the Civil War history yet, because I know I will become quite side tracked once I get started on that one!!

Laughing

Another New Cousin!

I was beyond thrilled this morning to open an email from Cousin Bobby. She has been in contact with a Friend of Corel Cousins, Stan. Stan has found a descendant of Rebecca through her daughter, Mary Evaline! The only other thing I know about this cousin so far is that he is from our area of the country, the Midwest! I am thrilled to no end to have another cousin found, and I hope to learn more about this cousin and have him and his family at our next reunion!

Other stuff

OK, here’s the ‘other stuff’ I put in the title of this blog, and something you have likely noticed by now. I’ve added a couple of ads to the pages. I am not looking to become rich off of this at all, I am just hoping I might be able to make the $10-$20 a month it is costing me to have this website. Don’t feel obligated to click on anything, because you aren’t! Right now, some of the ads are for ‘Corel Draw’ and ‘WordPerfect’, but I am hoping those ads will be gone within 48 hours and that the ads you will see will only be related to genealogy. If you see something that catches your eye, please click on it!

By adding the Google ads, I have also added a Google search to all of the website pages (not the blog pages). I had no idea until a couple of days ago that the search was not working on the site! (No one told me!!) I have done a basic search with the new search box, just remember that you need to select that you are only wanting to search Corel Cousins if you are looking for something on the site. I have added the option to not have any ‘adult’ material to come up in the search results, also, so the site should be safe for all of us!

If you have any problems with the ads or searches, please email me! I will work immediately to fix the problem, or remove the ad with the problem.

Questions and Thoughts

Well, the original questions I had have all been answered by Cousin Teresa, so I have thought about other, more appropriate ideas to discuss with this update.

John McGlothlin, from stories carried down through the family, is reported to have been a soldier in the Civil War. No evidence has been found by Teresa or myself that proves this, but the very fact that Wytheville was organizing regiments during the time when John died in Wytheville truly says to me that even if he wasn’t officially ’signed up’ yet, he had every intention of doing so. There may have been an incident that had nothing to do with the war. John may have been killed by ‘friendly fire’ while doing ‘exercises’ with the Wytheville Regiments. It is so very hard to say.

I also admire Rebecca for her strength when she found out that John had died. She would have been pregnant at the time, but it was early enough that she may not have realized she was pregnant yet. Of course it would be devastating to learn that one of your children has died, but the fact that she did not lose that baby, Amanda, is certainly admirable.

Oh yes, one final thought that occurred to me while working on this page. Has anyone else noticed that so many of the death certificates of the Corel Children show senility as a cause of death? Rebecca’s does not, and I was kind of surprised to see that. Is senility genetic? Are the Corel Cousins doomed to be senile? Well, that would certainly explain a few things about my Mom!

Tongue out

Just joking Mom! You know I love you!!

The next page is William Jr. - Gene, beware… the internet lines between us may heat up a bit this week!

I just had to come back and tell you all thank you so very much for all of the comments and emails from my last blog! In case you missed anything, read the blog early before many comments were posted, or didn’t even realize that the comments existed, you can click here to go back and read what everyone talked about!

Unfortunately, I’m still stuck on the last question and haven’t been knocked over by another mystery I have encountered! To recap, I am dying to find out where Rebecca Oney Corel’s house was built. Thanks to Bobby Dobbins Title, I now have a digital version of a map with who had claimed where, at least in 1857. And thanks to Mom (Connie Bishop) I know where to see the full sized map of the area!

1857 Douglas County Map

Wow, now isn’t that just awesome?

Well, I believe I had mentioned a while back that I was working on a bit of a side project. I’ve gotten it far enough to share with you all. But, while I am thinking about it, has anyone heard from Joe Cullen recently? I haven’t heard from him in awhile and I’m getting just a bit worried. Of course, he could be like some of the rest of you and out travelling and away from the computer. I certainly hope that is the case!

Oh yes, the project. Well, Joe has sent me some wonderful photos of his ancestors. I first created a simple web photo album, but neither of us was very happy with that. Joe asked if it might be possible to set it up as a family tree of photos. I have not added the actual lines that show the connections, but I fear that doing so might detract from the photo images themselves. I have fought and fought to get the photos to line up, and it is far from perfect, as you will see, but I am excited about this nonetheless!

Now before I give you the link to see this, I do want to explain that I have not added any text yet to detail the people in the photos and provide their information. In order to see who you are looking at right now, you will need to look at the (typically) blue bar across the top of your browser. You know, the one with the line to minimize, the boxes to maximize, and the ‘X’ to close the window. Right now, if you look up there you should see something that says “The Corel Cousins Blog: It’s…”. On each of the individual photos pages, you will see the names of the photos. I hope to get the chance to go back soon to add the actual text below the photos.

My next ‘problem’ with this page is that I don’t really have a place to put it yet! So, for now, this is the only way you can access the page: click here. To get to the individual photos, click on the thumbnail image you would like to see! I’ve been considering creating an index page for the photo pages, so that may come eventually. Another idea is to just have this page linked from the page I will create for Jemima Morris Corel. Quite possibly, I will do both. As always, I’d love to hear your ideas on how I might handle a page such as this, or anything you might like to see in the layout of it all!

OK, I think that is all for today! Hope everyone is making it through the week well!

Not nearly all that I have is up, but I do have the basics. I found that I kept going back and back wanting to add more and more. I have to find a stopping point and move on to the next child. I already know that I need to go through all of the children to add more. A couple of the children may be as far as they can be until new information is found on the child’s life, or until I get into the stories of their children.

You know, the ‘hugeness’ of this task is starting to hit me. All previous projects I have undergone in the past were ones that I would finish easily in a week or two. LOL (LOL is ‘cyber-ese’ for Laughing Out Loud) This has already taken a month and I’m not through the first 13 people (William, Rebecca, and the children who lived to marrying age), and there is so much more to be entered just on them!

Oh yes, a side note - Be happy I’m using ‘cyber-ese’ rather than the ‘Valley Talk’ that was so big in the ’80s!

Tongue out

Anyhow, back to how big this project is!! So I just looked, and I have about 100 grandchildren for William and Rebecca!! Averaging one or two people a week, will have me done with that generation in about a year! Yikes!

Yes, I know you are now laughing. You were amazed when I said I wanted to do this. But understand, I thought this would be just another easy project that wouldn’t take too long. No, I’m not stopping this, please don’t think that. I am now amazed that I am doing this! You see, with all of the thank-you’s I’ve received for taking on this project, I’ve brushed it off that it was no big deal. Still, to me, it’s no big deal because I want to do it. Now, however, I understand that to each of you this is a big deal that someone is willing to take on such a huge project!

OK, so how did I come to this massive realization? I received an email from California Corel Cousin Bobby that she had some of her genealogy friends look at our little site. The response was wonderful, and I believe there was a bit of pride between the lines when she said they were jealous of not have someone in their line creating a similar site!

Minor Updates

I also made some minor updates yesterday. I went through and made sure each of the links was working right. Several were not and it was difficult to manage to one child’s page from another child’s page. That should be fixed now.

I also ‘fixed’ the full-sized photo for the 1924 Corel-McGee picnic. It is not the full original size, but it is still of good quality and much easier to see without waiting an eternity for it to download! I looked at the other photos and nothing else seemed to take too long in loading, but if you find any that do, again, please let me know! I haven’t played with compressing them any further than they are. They work good for me, but I have a cable connection. For those of you on dial up, especially, tell me if anything takes too long, it is not hard to fix and will only take me about 2 minutes per photo.

The next change has been the addition of ‘Friends of Corel Cousins’. It has been pointed out to me that it is not just the descendants of William and Rebecca who may enjoy this site, many others may find interests here in the stories of the Corel family as well! In fact, I have already personally granted Honorary Corel Cousinship to more than one person!
Wink

Never was it my intention to imply that only those who can prove blood relation are to be welcome here! So, I made a few additions of including the friends on the home page! So, to be certain, I want everyone to know that I would like to hear from anyone via blog comment or email who finds anything on this site they would like to discuss, ask questions about, or make a contribution.

As previously discussed

I have recently been contacted by a new found cousin! Her name is Janet, she lives in Oregon, and her ancestors are Cosby Jane and William Justice, Louise and Albert Berten Justice, Fern Opal and Glenn McHenry. Fern and Glenn are Janet’s grandparents. Janet has just begun digging through all of her family treasures and piecing together the family.

Questions for Today…

After working on each of the pages, I discover that I have questions without answers by the time I’ve exhausted my searches online and through my materials. I think I will start asking the questions here, first, so I don’t forget! and second, so that maybe someone with the answer can let me know! My first question involves the following photo.

Douglas County Map

Does anyone have a better map? LOL This one is pretty rough. I am trying to picture where the different families live and this is the best I’ve found so far. Yes, I know that if I go to the Douglas County Library or Courthouse, I will find the map showing exactly what I want, but life does not always allow for such trips! Does anyone have a photo copy of the 1857 map showing who owned what land? Does anyone have a digital copy?

In reading Olivia’s obituary several times in the last few days, I have become very curious about the property that is now Oak Hill Cemetery. I knew that the property was donated by the Corel family since birth, or at least since the first time I visited the cemetery! I did not know that the land that is now the cemetery is where the first house stood. Does anyone know where in the cemetery the house was? I have imagined that the tall tree next to the red McGee monument may have stood in the front yard. I have imagined that perhaps the house was on top of one of the hills that do not yet have graves. Or near the site where the Civil War soldiers are buried. One day last fall, Rick and I walked all over the old sections of the cemetery. This weekend we have discussed a second trip to go ‘exploring’, but this time with a camera!! There are far to many graves there, I have no intention of documenting the entire cemetery, or even the older sections! I have photos of James Pickens Corel’s monument, as well as the plots reserved for James Henry and his children. I need to get the McGee stones which are all right next to each other. It may take some time to find the others I know are there, but there are also just so many interesting stones. Then, I would also like to shoot the land itself. Unfortunately I will not be able to share some of the sites we saw this fall, as it was a couple of weeks after a tornado/microburst had hit and not all of the clean up had been completed yet. But I hope those of you who do not live in the area or had the opportunity to just walk around the cemetery and look at the land that was once lived on by Pioneers, and Native Americans before them, will enjoy what I hope to bring in the future, and perhaps dream with me of what the land may have looked like then.

OK, I’m wrapping! Laughing Now those of you who don’t know me too well see how I compensate after being too sick for too long! Have a GREAT week!

Unfortunately I have not made any updates to the site yet and I am so very sorry. It is probably more disappointing to me than any of you, but I suppose that life will go on for all of us!

Saturday night I became very ill, most likely it is connected to the last time I was sick, which was about 2 weeks ago. Mom told me that it is OK and that no one would blame me for not working on the site, but I still feel bad.

I have been reading emails that you all have been sending, and Joe, I especially want to thank you for the stuff from last week. Time got away from me and I really owe you an email! Truth be known, I haven’t had enough energy to sit here at the computer for very long lately, and anyone who knows me knows that I must be sick if I’m not getting on the computer hardly at all!

Tongue out

I received an email this morning that absolutely thrilled me, and I just had to let you all know that this little site, although very far from complete, has found at least one NEW COUSIN! This morning I heard from a descendant of Cosby Jane and William Justice! I have responded to her email to let her know that I am so very happy that she has ‘found’ her Corel Cousins! I have not yet heard back from her, so as I try to protect everyone here, I don’t want to post anything else about her just yet.

I have also received an email from another recently found cousins, Ella. Some of you have emailed her and know who I am talking about, and, again, I do not want to reveal too much, but Ella is having some medical problems herself, so I would like to ask those of you who are of a spiritual nature to pray for Ella and that everything works out well for her.

With a name like that, she deserves to have so much time taken on her page! She has an extra page, like James Pickens, crediting and showing a wonderful map I found online. I’m pretty sure I have the areas marked correctly, but I certainly hope that Bobby will let me know if I need to make any changes!

Nancy is another I have given some extra attention to. I wanted this page to be perfect (I hope it is, but will survive if it isn’t!) to honor not only Nannie, but her great granddaughter, Bobby Dobbins Title. At this time, I have not included a ‘future link’ for the LaHay family, because I have not found a great deal on this line, outside what you will find on Nancy’s Corel Cousins page and Bobby’s Rootsweb page.

I need to admit that after completing the first half of Nannie’s page, I had to stop for a short time. We all have hardships in our lives and struggle through those hardships, sometimes wondering if we will survive. Nannie’s story helped me view my own personal struggles in a different light. Here I sat, nearly 143 years after the fact, moved to tears by the harsh life Nannie must have lived during her first 30 years of life. Worst of all, this was a time of ‘outhouses’! And I have problems using a public restroom!

Laughing

Nancy is now completed and my next page will be Olivia. Olivia excites me because we have so many photos of her and her descendants thanks to Gloria Rakocy and her sister Daphne Pereles.

Again, I do want to mention that as soon as I finish Olivia, Rebecca, and William, I will be going back to the other children to more fully tell their stories.

Once again, Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

OK, I received an email from Mom, so I thought I should at least post a blog to let everyone know what’s going on!

This has been an unusually busy week at work, not allowing me the normal time I have to work on personal things. Additionally, I became a bit sidetracked while working on the next page, Nancy Maryland Corel. I am about halfway through with what I have mapped out in my mind.

Nancy moved her family to Colorado. Being a Kansas girl, I know quite a bit about Kansas history and have different sites I utilize regularly. Colorado is a whole new state! I have been trying to do some research for some additional information to add to her site. I finally was able to find something relevant yesterday and will try to have the page up later today!

Another issue sidetracking me has been working with one of the Corel Cousins with some very excellent photos. I am very excited about this ’side project’ and hope that it will encourage you all to send me more information about your individual lines.

I know, we are all busy in our every day lives, some of us work while others may have other obligations taking care of family or even volunteer organizations. Plus, there is the everyday life occurences. It never fails that as you are rushing out of the house late for an appointment, that the toilet overflows or something of equal importance needing your attention. I also am aware that few of you actually know me! I am pretty shy myself and haven’t emailed anyone individually yet that I do not know. That will be changing rather soon.

Smile

After I have Nancy’s page done this weekend, I will email everyone individually asking your permission to include your name and email address in page that lists the researchers of the different lines.

OK, that is about all for this morning. Everyone have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Mom and Michelle are walking in the KC parade this morning with their dogs and Michelle’s husband and daughter. I hope they send me pics of the fun they will be having this morning so I can share it with you all.

I would also like to honor Cosby Jane Corel Justice this morning. Today marks the 177th anniversary of Cosby’s birth. Happy Birthday Cosby Jane!

And KU is the #1 seed for the West! Of course my brackets will show KU going all the way. It’s who I choose every year. Of course, the guys I work with laugh at me every year, but it’s OK, because this year just may be the year! After winning the Big 12 tourney in OT, who’s to say they don’t have a chance? It’s been their best year under Coach Bill Self, and I think it’s time that they give him a National Title. Only time will tell.

Did you know that the Corel family is connected to the father of basketball, James Naismith? His daughter, Margaret married George Stanley. George is the son of Anna Corel and J.R. Stanley. Anna is the youngest daughter of James Pickens Corel.

In other news, somehow I actually finished the pages for Margaret and Mary. That leaves Nancy, Olivia, Rebecca, and William. Wow. I’m more than half way there! I’d like to say that I would be able to finish one child a day, but I really do have to go back to work! I have lots of info to sort through on Nancy and Olivia, so I’m not going to guess on how quickly I might get through this!

I’ve also added to the main page. There is now a section on the variations of the way Corel has been spelled throughout the years. I had planned on adding this to the page, but wasn’t sure of when or how, but an email from Bobby suggested I get it up for ‘unfound’ cousins searching for the Corel family. Bobby also had another wonderful idea. She suggested I create a page that listed the email addresses of the other researchers of the Corel family. I can easily create an image of everyone’s email, similar to what Rootsweb does, to reduce the likelihood of spammers getting anyone’s email. I would like to get other opinions about creating such a page! Please email me or leave a comment on what you think!

Popularity: 25% [?]

OK, that’s a bit more than what I’ve accomplished so far, but just a bit! Jemima and Louisa are uploaded and I am now working on Margaret. I have also made some minor updates, that many will likely not even notice.

Computer Babbling

I updated the code for the counter on the main page. I have also added a link where you can click and go see who’s been visiting. I’m not sure of what all you will get to see, but I find the map most interesting. Plus I check out to see what level of which browser you are all using. That way I know to make sure that it should look the same for everyone. I have noticed, however, that someone is using a Mac. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a Mac so I am unable to make sure you see the same things as clearly as the PC people do. I was thrilled to know that we all have the latest version of Java installed! Should things progress to where I get a bit experimental, it’s good to know that everyone will be able to see if I do some javascripting.

The majority of visitors are using Internet Explorer 7 and have their video set up to ‘normal’ standards. I know my Mom is not among those with the ‘normal’ video, I’ve tried for years to change it, but she always sets it back saying it is too small. Well, I need to be able to get as much on a page as possible, so I’m glad to see that many of you feel the same way.

There is one out there that I am worried about. But, we all have to start somewhere, I just hope you don’t have any problems viewing anything. If you do, let me know and I will send you whatever it may be in a more basic package.

Smile

Oh yes, so you aren’t too overly impressed by that 370+ number on the counter, that is just the number of pageloads. I have also used the option to block my home and work computers because I tend to get refresh happy when I am trying to get something to look ‘just right’. When last I looked, we have had 94 unique visitors at Corel Cousins! Now before anyone is too impressed, understand that there are likely those among us who are leery of even little ol’ me!

I don’t have this problem in FireFox, so I don’t think of it often, but I have noticed that when I check a page in Internet Explorer 7, that bar and beep shows up saying I that it won’t run the scripts unless I click on the bar and say it is OK. Well, because I don’t work with IE everyday, I’m not sure if you say it is OK on one day that it will go away forever or not. But, I do want to assure everyone that the only info I am getting from your computer is what I’ve explained above. And, as I mentioned, it’s everyone’s location that excites me to no end. So, for those who do not allow the script to run, they could be counted as a unique visitor each time they load the page. I understand protecting yourself from potential hacks, so please do not feel that I am telling anyone to change anything about the way they surf. There are evil people out there who are wanting to know more than what state you are from and if you have Java installed.

Struggling a Bit

I struggled working on Jemima’s page. She is one of those who has walked softly through life. There has been so little found about Jemima herself, but when emailing Bobby about my struggle, she shared the stories of two of Jemima’s children. I had seen most of what she wrote, but she did share a few things that I hadn’t found, or read in her work yet. At least I will have things to put up about her children.

I have looked over my scarce information about Margaret, also. I hope that one of you may have something to share about Margaret’s life, a story, photo, or unique information found about her. If not, no worries because I know I will have interesting stories on her descendants as well!

And Back to Jemima’s Page

I noticed when I was typing Jemima’s page that I was explaining things even more indepth than I had previously. This is for the many ‘non-genealogist’ cousins. And, in particular, my sister, Michelle.

Long before I thought of creating a website, I talked with Michelle about possibly compiling a book on Abby’s ancestors. Michelle thought it was a good idea, but I had to ask her if she would read it. Her response is affecting how I am trying to create this site. She said that she wouldn’t be interested in reading a bunch of names and numbers. Yes, this is the basic info and is pretty much all that is up, but I am trying to include stories and historic events in with each of the families. Once I have all children posted, I am going to try to go back to add a bit more.

For instance, one thing that always jumps out at me about Jemima is her birth year of 1812. I swear that I never learned about the War of 1812 in school, but over the past year or so I have read up a bit after discovering that one of my paternal ancestors fought in the war in the Lincoln Militia from Lincoln County, Ontario. For my sister, and any other non-history people, the war of 1812 was a follow-up of the Revolutionary War between Britain and the United States. At the time, Canada was under Britain’s rule, so my paternal ancestor fought ‘on the wrong side’!

Next Update

I hope to have both Margaret and Mary completed for my next update, which could be tomorrow if things go smoothly. Knowing how my luck works, tho, the next update will most likely be Monday or Tuesday!

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

I have uploaded the page for James Pickens. Now to tell you all why I am so excited about this update!

I was looking for a picture of the old Pioneer Cemetery, also known as the Mt. Oread Cemetery, and surfing some Kansas sites. In my surfing, I came across a picture that is included in the Library of Congress American Memory Collection. It is a photo of the Survivors of Quantrill’s Raid in 1913. I have offered two links to the photo. The first shows the original size photo as provided by the Library of Congress. The second is an enlarged photo to better study the individuals in the picture.

To see the full size or enlarged size, don’t forget to click on the photo once it loads, or the square that may appear in earlier versions of Internet Explorer.

The next child to be updated will be Jemima. Unfortunately we do not know of any present day generations of Jemima’s descendants. This may make things a bit more difficult in finding an image to post with Jemima, as well as being able to provide much content.

Jemima was the oldest child of William and Rebecca. She was one of two sisters who married McGlothlin’s. I have not yet found the exact relationship of the two McGlothlin’s that married the Corel’s, but the day is early yet!

You will notice that I have added a couple of links to my blog, as well as the website. The first is to the Digital Cemetery. This site is the site of a very kind lady in Johnson County, Kansas. I emailed with her back and forth several times over the past weekend, and she was kind enough to send me photos of the Justice graves. The transcriptions of the Shawnee Cemetery where Cosby Jane and so many of her descendants are interred are not yet uploaded, which makes her assistance that much more valuable! Linda, the Digital Cemeterian, was also kind enough to tell me who the next stone was for, after the Justice family. She could never have imagined how excited I would be by this little tidbit of info! The next family name is McGee! The individuals under this tombstone are Ralph and Minnie. I have no idea who Ralph and Minnie are, but I am fairly certain that we will find that they are also descendants of William and Rebecca. Linda has been so helpful in searching through her database that isn’t fully complete yet to find all of the Justice stones in the Shawnee Cemetery, I just couldn’t ask for her to also search the McGee’s. But I did request that she let me know once she gets the transcription uploaded and online!

The next link I have added is to Family Lineage Investigations located in Kentucky and operated by Teresa Martin Klaiber. If you scroll down on this page and look at the ‘Klaiber Genealogy’, you will see that one of the names included is McGlothlin. Teresa’s husband, James, is a descendant of Rebecca Ann Corel and Robert Emmitt McGlothlin, through their son James P. McGlothlin. Teresa has emailed with me a few times, and she has been very kind in sending me a descendant report of Rebecca Ann and other information that I will be able to add to Rebecca’s page! Teresa also offers professional research services for Northeastern Kentucky, for anyone who is interested.

I hope that you all enjoy this update as much as I have enjoyed working on it. I have not had the opportunity to sit down and scrutinize the photo from the Library of Congress, so if anyone has the time to look and thinks they may have found James Pickens in the photo, please email me or leave a comment here!

I am so glad to hear that so many of you are enjoying the site. Even if you don’t want to be talkative on the blog, I am so very glad that some are taking the time to email me. Trust me, I most certainly understand. I am the most introverted person I’ve ever met! I can be perfectly happy in my own little world, with just an occasional visitor. However, when it comes to blogging, you have to realize that I have no idea if you are all enjoying this, or if this is a waste of my time, if you don’t let me know!

Seeing that some of you have signed up to receive the notifications most certainly helps. I am so happy, I actually have more people who have subscribed because they wanted to, and not because I stuck their email in there so I could play with the program!

Smile

Decisions to be made

As you can see, I am still playing a bit with this. I have jumped back to the beginning, and reviewed the options for having a blog. Wouldn’t you know that all of my frustration with this blog is because I picked the hardest one to use! Movable Type is for advanced users. I may be advanced in a lot of things, but not blogging, programming, scripts, or any of this other crazy stuff I’m trying to get straightened out!

I can already hear Mom, along with a few others, saying that there is nothing wrong with the blog. I’m doing wonderfully. Well, there are problems, and they are haunting my dreams! OK, not really quite that bad, but look right over there… To the right of this page (at least today!). Notice how each ‘area’ is a darker grey than the rest of the navigation bar? I know, except for that one that I added! The area where you enter your email to be notified of new happenings at Corel Cousins. It’s all the light grey. Why isn’t it dark like the rest? I certainly can’t figure it out.

I know, that is not a big deal to most of you. There’s more, tho! Do you see anything else wrong over there? Look at the titles for each of the sections. Do you see it? The first two are not the full width of the navigation area, but the rest are! I could really care less which way it is, but uniformity is very important. To me, these silly little problems just scream that I do not have a clue to what I am doing. Yes, I know I have already said that I don’t know what I am doing, but I don’t like to show it off!

I have made a major accomplishment, tho. I have added a section over there called Links where you can click on Corel Cousins and not have to use your back button! One victory down!

Oh Man…

OK, I wasn’t really much in the mood to mess with the website when I got home. Then, after dinner, I sat down and decided to just open the web page editing program. I was just looking around, not really ‘moving forward’ on the site, then I found it. The button that will check the entire site for broken links.

I guess I moved a bit fast. Some of the links got a bit ‘fried’ moving from page to page. So I moved a bit too fast and uploaded well before I should have. I even talked to my own mother after she saw the upgrade, and she didn’t even indicate that some of the links were messed up.

And such is life, I suppose.

And in closing…

I am, however, quite exited about my next updated page. I have already made the pages for Cosby Jane and Henry Highland. Next is James Pickens, my great-great-great grandfather, so I may be putting a little more into this update, but I think that even if this wasn’t my direct ancestor, I would be just as excited about what I have found to put on the site! I will try to have it uploaded tomorrow, just in time for Mom’s (Connie Bishop) birthday!
